Haribo USA Gummi Berries and Frogs Review

$

As I wrote about in my review of A Taste Of The States, they’ve been sending me a selection of snacks each month, which I get to choose with a budget based on referrals. A big thankyou to everyone who used my code KEV20! You can still use it for 20% off all orders from
https://atasteofthestates.com/.

Some snacks from my most recent order were these Haribo Berries and Frogs which are made by the US arm of Haribo. I really enjoyed their Fruit Salad sweets so was excited to try more varieties.

These are blackberry and raspberry flavoured and have bobbly sugar pieces over a jelly centre.

They’re super duper sweet, but pretty tasty and unique. I loved the contrast between the crunchy outer layer and the gummy inner layer. I couldn’t  eat too many due to the sweetness but they’re certainly a lot of fun!

The Frogs consist of a white foam layer on the bottom and green apple flavoured gummy on top. I ordered these as they reminded me of the frog sweets I used to get in tuck shop bags as a kid!

They’re quite chewy and have a nice apple flavour. Perhaps a little boring though - would be nice to have more of a mix of flavours although I guess that might go against the “green” theme.

Overall then, the Berries get a thumbs up from me and the Frogs are just ok. I’m really enjoying trying all these various US Haribo varieties...they’ve all been a lot more interesting than UK versions.

If any of these take your fancy, you can order them from  https://atasteofthestates.com/ using code KEV20 for 20% off. They’ve had some great stock in recently, such as the new Hazelnut aka Nutella M&M’s!

Halo Top Peanut Butter Sticks Review

Many thanks to Halo Top for sending me some of their new ice cream sticks to review. They have recently launched into Tesco and seem to be very popular indeed. I've reviewed their Salted Caramel Non Dairy tub previously, and really enjoyed it so was curious how the dairy version of the stick lollies would taste. These contain 100 calories per stick and are a source of protein.

The peanut butter sauce is swirled into the lollies, creating a nice effect and they certainly look the part! The ice cream is peanut butter flavoured.

They taste superb! The ice cream itself is quite light which is to be expected since it's lower calorie, but the  sauce elevates it with a lovely salty peanut butter flavour. It blends perfectly with the ice cream and makes for a very moreish snack. Now, I’m not really into calorie counting personally so...I went ahead and ate another stick right after! If you have more willpower than me though, I imagine these are a great little dessert for when you’re slimming. And compared to the tub versions they’re probably handy as the calorie content is already set. My only gripe is the price - £5 for a box of 3?! Luckily these are usually on a special offer like most other luxury ice creams but still, that’s taking the piss just a bit!

Nim’s Watermelon Fruit Crisps Review

Nims watermelon fruit crisps

When I heard about these new Watermelon Fruit Crisps on Instagram recently I knew they were something I had to try. One because I love melon - it may be my favourite fruit - and two because, they’re crisps! Now I’ve tried Nim’s Fruit Crisps before and wasn’t so keen on the pear ones, however other varieties I’ve tried since have been more to my taste. So I was optimistic these might be in the latter category. Like all of Nim’s range they’re gluten free and vegan, with no added sugar and these ones are air dried with no oil or flavourings added. They’re just pure air dried watermelon! I found them in Tesco for £1, near the fruit & veg aisle, and there’s 64 calories and 0g fat per bag if that sort of thing matters to you.

Nims watermelon fruit crisps

Opening the bag, they looked like...well, dried watermelon! There’s even some little seeds in there!

Nims watermelon fruit crisps

Since I love watermelon I was maybe more excited to try these than I should have been. But after trekking around Tesco I really needed a sweet little snack and these fit the bill nicely...they’re pleasantly sweet (in a natural way) and just crunchy enough to feel like “crisps”. There’s the watermelon flavour everyone knows and it’s perhaps more concentrated and sweet in this form. My main issue was that I feel there could have been more of them and also I wasn’t keen on the melon skin still being on them? I’m sure it’s perfectly edible and probably very healthy, it’s just not something I’d usually eat on a melon. It’s quite flavourless in my opinion.

Overall though, these are a pretty decent snack and although they won’t be replacing fresh melon for me anytime soon, they’re a nice addition to add to the list if you want a healthier snacking option. Bravo to Nim’s for giving more options for people wanting something healthy yet still “snacky”!

Cadbury Caramel Twirl Limited Edition (Australia)

Cadbury Twirl caramel

A big thankyou to Panda333 for kindly sending me some Australian treats over to the UK to try a while back - there were some great gems in there, including the Tropical M&M's I've previously reviewed, and another one I was very excited to try - Cadbury Twirl Caramel flavour!

This was a limited edition in Australia, I believe, and consists of the classic Cadbury Twirl flaky chocolate but with a caramel flavour twist.

Cadbury twirl caramel

Opening the wrapper it certainly had a caramel aroma and a whiff of the distinctive Cadbury chocolate we are all familiar with.

It tastes...nice, but not quite as amazing as I had built up in my mind. The chocolate actually tastes slightly different to UK Cadbury chocolate, it's perhaps a tad creamier. The caramel flavour is there and it adds a nice twist but it's not quite as strong or realistic tasting as I'd hoped. The ingredients list has "flavourings" on it, so there you go. If they'd have used caramelised chocolate or sugar in it this might have tasted better, or even their legendary sounding Caramilk blonde chocolate! (drooling at the thought of that!) Still, it's great to try a Cadbury Twirl with a different flavour. Thankyou Panda for getting this for me - muchos appreciated!

Would you like to see new Twirl flavours in the UK? If so let me know in the comments!

As an aside...apparently Australia also used to get a Mint Twirl!

Tesco Rhubarb & Custard Creams Review

Tesco Rhubarb and Custard Creams

If you haven't heard by now, Tesco are selling Rhubarb and Custard creams, hurrah! I first posted about these on Instagram over the weekend and it seems it's quite newsworthy indeed...even the Daily Mail mentioned them ;)

Tesco Rhubarb and Custard Creams

It is of course very exciting news, and it's rather baffling how no company ever thought of trying such a flavour before now? I mean it just makes logical sense...custard cream, rhubarb and custard...perfect marriage right? Well we now live in age where every mashup possible seems to exist, so it seems like the right time for them to be introduced. Of course, Hill Biscuits have been making various flavoured biscuit creams for years now, from Digestive Creams to Orange, Strawberry and even Chocolate Orange...but that's another story.

These Rhubarb and Custard Creams cost 40p for 150g in Tesco and are described as a "Sandwich biscuit with a rhubarb flavour filling. Rhubarb and Custard creams are Crunchy and Fruity, carefully baked to a classic recipe with a twist". They contain a pink coloured, rhubarb flavoured cream centre. The ingredients list flavourings rather than real rhubarb.

Tesco Rhubarb and Custard Creams

As I wrote on Instagram, they're surprisingly good, the rhubarb flavour isn't too overpowering but it's there and goes nicely with the cream element. The biscuits themselves are cheap and cheerful...don't expect buttery luxury but they're nice for what they are. All things considered, they're definitely something worth trying if you like rhubarb flavoured things!

It seems people have been having difficulty obtaining these - Tesco's website says they are currently unavailable, so they’re either really popular or in limited stock.

Have you managed to try these? Let me know in the comments!

Radioactive Sours White Chocolate

Many thanks to Treat Kitchen for sending me some bars of their new “Radioactive Sours” White chocolates to review recently. They are known for their sour sweets but have now created the worlds first sour chocolate, which is laced with malic acid and contains popping candy, and they’re super sour indeed! They come in 4 flavours; Blue Raspberry and Lemon (today’s review) as well as Strawberry and Apple.

So as you can see they’re both very brightly coloured! Which is a little off putting to be honest, but at the same time I guess half the fun of products like this is the bright colours. They have strong fruity sweet and sour aromas.

The lemon flavour was my favourite - the white chocolate is super sweet, not high end stuff but it’s decent, with the lemon flavour tasting somewhat like sherbet lemons in chocolate form. It’s very sour, a bit artificial, with the popping candy giving a gentle crackling sensation. And it’s quite fun to be honest!

Now blue raspberry is a flavour that works well in sweets and drinks because it’s artificial and that’s kind of what you expect  (like the Tango Blue Balls I once reviewed), but mixed with white chocolate it’s just a bit overkill. It’s too sickly and doesn’t really work. Still, I guess the colour is fun and it’s a nice novelty.

Overall then, these chocolates are a mixed bag, but they’re a lot of fun and if you like white chocolate, sour sweets and novelty in general these might be for you. I’ve been told they’re available from Kingdom of Sweets currently but I’m not sure where else will be stocking them. Stay tuned on my Instagram page for updates!

Graham's Salted Caramel Ice Cream Review

Thankyou to Graham’s Family Dairy for sending me some of their new ice creams to review recently. The range is available now from Lidl stores and consists of the ones I’ve previosuly reviewed - Espresso Caramel and White Chocolate & Raspberry, plus this; Salted Caramel! Ahh you can’t beat Salted caramel and ice cream together, am I right?!

These ice creams are lower in calories and sugar and higher in protein than most regular varieties and somewhat similar to Halo Top, although I think they’re a lot tastier and richer. They use a mix of sweetener and real sugar, thus reducing the sugar content but not totally removing the flavour.

The ice cream has a nice rippled effect that looks lovely on opening the tub...

And it tastes lovely too! These ice creams are just so creamy for a lower calorie version; with the sauce being plentiful and tasting authentic too. It’s a great combination and I thoroughly enjoyed this, and didn’t even think about it being lower calorie as it’s so rich.

Overall, if you’re looking for something like Halo Top but with a bit more oomph to it, I’d recommend these - get yourself to Lidl pronto! They’re much cheaper than Halo Top  too at £2.99 a tub!

Quality Street Chocolate Caramel Brownie replacing Toffee Deluxe!

Quality street chocolate caramel brownie

It's been a few years now since Nestle added a new variety to their Quality Street boxes, which was Honeycomb Crunch - do check out my review of it from 2016. They're at it again however and this time have even admitted it's a ploy to get folks attention - they've removed the Toffee Deluxe from boxes and replaced it with a "Chocolate Caramel Brownie".

Quality street chocolate caramel brownie

Does it contain brownie? Of course not, and maybe that's all part of the controversy plan...it's simply a chocolate flavoured caramel.

Nestle quality street caramel brownie

Now don't get me wrong, it tastes very good! Chocolate flavour caramel is always a nice variation of regular caramel, giving it an extra oomph of cocoa flavour, and somewhat toning down the sweetness of the caramel. But it ain't no brownie - a brownie is a fudgey cake! Since when did it become shorthand for companies to do an "extra chocolatey" version of whatever?

Nestle quality street caramel brownie

The rest of the chocolates are all as you'd expect, full of sweet, cheap favourites that are always nice for nostalgia at Christmas. Definitely not luxury by any means but they are what they are. I think I still prefer Quality Street over Roses because of my favourites the Strawberry Cremes and Purple Ones.

Nestle quality street new chocolate

Overall then, there's not much to say...I've never been a big fan of the toffees in Quality Street personally, so won't miss the Toffee Deluxe. I'm just bemused at the false advertising!

Will you miss the Toffee Deluxe? Do you want it back? Let me know in the comments!

Ion8 One Touch Leak Proof Water Bottle Review

I was recently sent this new Ion 8 Leak Proof Flask to review. Now I don’t usually feature such products but as this was described as being leak proof I couldn’t say no, since I am so often disappointed with cheap flasks that end up leaking in my bag. This Ion 8 bottle promises to solve that issue with a lid that is completely sealed, with a one touch spring-open top.

I have to say I do like the design, it’s sleek and quite sexy, haha!

As promised the lid flips open easily and has a button on the side to do so. No unscrewing or pressing the top down like some flasks that inevitably end up leaking. The top screws off so you can fill it with your drink of choice.

It’s BPA Free so will leave no odours or bad tastes in your drink, and keeps drinks chilled at the same temperature when filled.

I used it as a flask for coffee, which it’s not specifically advertised for but after reading the instructions they state it’s safe for both hot and cold drinks. And I can confirm that there were no leaks nor even any chance of a leak! It was also very handy to carry around in my bag and flip open when needing a quick swing of coffee - as I often do, especially when I’m shopping for new snacks! Haha. The spout design is useful and more suited to cold drinks rather than hot - if your coffee is super hot when added to the flask be careful of burning your mouth! But it was otherwise fine. I did miss there being some kind of cup attached to it, but I suppose that defeats the point of being compact and slimline.

All in all, this is a pretty good product that does the job it claims to! I’ll definitely be using it in place of my old annoying flask from now on which has been relegated to the recycle bin.

For more information and to buy these flasks see the Ion 8 website:

Nomo Dairy Free Vegan Chocolates Review

$

Many thanks to Nomo “No Missing Out” Chocolates for gifting me samples of their new vegan free from chocolate range, which has recently been launched into Holland and Barrett and Tesco stores. I was very intrigued by these as they sounded a little different from standard dairy free products, and come in a few interesting flavours too. They are Dairy Free, Egg Free, Gluten Free, and most of the bars are also Soya Free (with the exception being the dark chocolate bar).

I was most interested in the Caramel and Sea Salt and Fruit & Crunch bars, and they actually turned out to be my favourites too.

Starting with the Fruit and Crunch bar, I really loved this one! Think a vegan version of a Raisin and Biscuit Yorkie - if you've ever had Raisin and Biscuit Yorkie you'll know just how nice the combination of raisins and biscuit is! Now of course there's no biscuit here, just crunchy crisped rice, and plenty of it too.

There's a good amount of raisins also to add bursts of chewiness mixed in with the crunchy bits.

The actual chocolate is very smooth for a dairy free chocolate and surprisingly doesn't taste waxy or cheap like many brands often do. I've heard it described on Instagram as being a bit like Galaxy...and honestly I can kind of agree with such a comparison! It's a very smooth texture and probably the closest you'll get in dairy free form. I was puzzled as to how they've achieved this and I do believe it's because they use shea oil in the recipe - an unusual one for a chocolate bar. It also has cocoa butter as the second ingredient so doesn't skimp there either. I am guessing the shea oil is what gives it the smoother taste compared to other bars. If you're dairy free or vegan - this one is a must, so enjoyable!

The Caramel and Sea Salt bar was my second favourite, combining a caramel flavour with added sea salt within the chocolate. A shame it didn't have crunchy caramel bits in, but never mind. The caramel flavour is very strong and lovely, with the salt enhancing it further. It's very caramelly and moreish, and I've also seen it compared on Instagram to Galaxy Caramel, which isn't too much of a stretch. Now if they'd added some "real" dairy free caramel as a filling it'd be amazing! But as it is this is again a very smooth bar with a lovely taste. I would recommend this as well as the Fruit & Crunch as a must try.

The regular milk chocolate bar is also pretty good and comes in small bars or larger bars. I really like the small bars as the chunks have a nice chunky size and feel substantial, and you could imagine them being like a Dairy Milk bar. The chocolate is smooth, silky and sweet and one of the best dairy free "milk chocolate alternatives" you're probably going to get. I wasn't as fussed on the larger block version though - it's nice to have more quantity but the block design somehow makes it feel a bit cheap compared to the smaller bars?

See the photo above  - what do you think? Aesthetics matter folks!

Lastly, there was also a dark chocolate that only comes in a larger block. Now Nomo chocolates are made by Kinnerton who make other dairy free dark chocolates so I'm guessing this is the same thing repackaged - it contains soya lecithin in the ingredients rather than the sunflower lechitin the milk versions do, so be aware of this if you have soy allergy. And I didn't enjoy this one much at all sadly. It tastes a bit cheap, and definitely nothing like the smooth milk chocolates above. I don't think the range needed to include it since there are already cheap dark chocolates out there such as Bournville, although as Kinnerton are a specialised nut free facility, it's probably good if you have nut allergies.

All in all, I have to say this is a great range! The raisin and caramel ones are must trys and just show that you can have interesting flavours in a dairy free chocolate whilst still tasting smooth and creamy. If you're dairy free or vegan, get yourself to the Tesco Free From section or to Holland and Barrett and give these a try!

Coco Nutters Chocolate Dipped Salted Caramel Snowconut Sticks Review

Coco nutters salted caramel

The vegan and dairy free food market has literally exploded this year, on the back of veganuary and ever more people choosing plant based alternatives. Which is a good thing for those who have allergies too - there's so many choices now!

Coco nutters snowconut

In the chiller cabinets they've been a little slower to take off for some reason, but things are definitely improving - there's now Dairy Free Halo Top varieties, and a soon-to-be-launched Coconut Ice Cream brand I must keep hush about for now!

Today's review are these sticks I picked up on special offer in a large Waitrose store. I've reviewed various Coconut Collaborative products before and it seems they've dropped that name on these ice creams and opted for "Coco Nutters", which is a fun name I have to say and one I have called my snacks pal Reaching For Refreshment in the past, as she is very much a coco-nutter!

Coco nutters salted caramel snowconut

Anyway, these sticks are of course vegan, gluten free, dairy free, and also nut free and soya free, hurrah! They consist of salted caramel flavour coconut based ice cream with the top half coated in a dairy free chocolate flavour coating.

Coco nutters salted caramel coconut

I wasn't expecting too much as so often these type of coconut based "ice creams" taste more like sorbet with a little coconut cream added, but luckily that wasn't the case this time. These taste super caramelly, definitely fitting their name and not skimping on the flavour at all. They taste very indulgent and you don't feel like you're eating flavoured sorbet. The chocolate coating was good, giving a nice flavour contrast and added to the indulgent feel, although I'm not sure it was entirely necessary since the ice cream is so good (a fully coated Magnum-style version would be nice though!)

What can I say? These are delicious and it's a shame they only seem to be available in Waitrose and Ocado.com! I'm sure Sainsbury's might stock them before long though, since they do the original variety.

Ingredients:
Coconut Cream (29%), Water, Fruit Derived Sugars (from Grape), Dark Chocolate (15%) (Cocoa Mass, Coconut Sugar, Cocoa Butter), Dietary Fibre (Chicory Root), Stabilisers (Locust Bean Gum, Guar Gum), Emulsifier (Mono & Diglycerides of Fatty Acids), Natural Caramel Flavouring (0.4%), Natural Flavouring, Colour (Beta-Carotene).

Bounty Milk Snacks Review

You may have seen my Instgaram post on these last week so I won't bore you with too many details. They were kindly gifted to me by a PR company and are now available in the chiller cabinets of Sainsbury's stores (not all stores may have them so be sure to check with staff if they don't). They cost £2 per box of 4 and consist of a chocolate sponge cake base, topped with a coconut flavour mousse, and coated in milk chocolate.

If you love all things coconut you're bound to love these, they combine cake with creamy sweet coconut mousse - what's not to like?! Unless you hate coconut of course haha. In fact I'd say they're a tad more interesting than actual Bounty bars since they're not as dry, and the different tastes and textures make for more of an “experience”. They reminded me somewhat of those coconut mallow biscuits, but much nicer.

If you like coconut cakey sorts of things, check these out in the chiller aisles! I'll keep you updated if other stores start stokcing them (Instagram!) but for now head to Sainsbury's!

Yorica Vanilla Free From Vegan Ice Cream Review

Yorica Vanilla Free From

Following on from my review of the Coco Nutters Salted Caramel Sticks I reviewed recently, I thought I'd do another Dairy Free Vegan ice cream product I picked up in Waitrose. Yorica ice creams seem to only be available in large Waitrose stores as well as Ocado.com (thus far) so I had to take the opportunity to try one. They cost £4.99 a tub which is equivalent to the similar Halo Top Non Dairy ice cream tubs.

Described as "Rice drink and coconut based frozen vanilla dessert" this comes in a 340g tub and is also available in a Chocolate and Salted Caramel flavour. Yorica ice creams are free from 14 major allergens including nuts, eggs, gluten, dairy and soy and of course are suitable for vegans. I picked up this vanilla variety rather than the chocolate as it didn't have as many binders in the ingredients. It contains fructose rather than white sugar, if that sort of thing matters to you. There's also real Madagascan "spent vanilla seeds" in the ingredients - which I have never heard of before... (google here I come!)

Yorica ice cream vanilla vegan

When I got this tub home it was pretty much all melted and the perfect consistency for eating, so I dove right in. And it's delicious! I've had a few dairy free ice creams like this now and often they do taste a bit like sorbet with coconut cream added, but on this occasion it was a lot more like a soft serve Cornish vanilla ice cream. Lovely! No doubt the added rice mixed with the coconut is responsible for that. For once I didn't feel like I was missing out on the creamy taste and texture that makes regular dairy ice cream so good. This is definitely an ice cream I'd buy again for those times I want to go easy on the dairy!

Yorica ice cream vegan

Overall, this is one I'd highly recommend to anyone with allergies or who is vegan. It's a shame it's currently only available in Waitrose but hopefully other stores will start selling it too! Next on my list to try is Salted Caramel...

Skittles Dips Yoghurty Coated

skittles dips yoghurty coated

This is shaping up to be quite a packed year in terms of new product releases thus far; we've had various new cookie and ice cream varieties, various Cadbury products (including the new Choose a Flavour vote), Dark Milk Galaxy bars and now these...Skittles Dips! I had heard rumours about these some time ago and that they would be white chocolate coated, but it seems something must have changed along the way and they went with yoghurt instead. Perhaps a wise choice as white chocolate mixed with Skittles would be just a bit too sickly!

skittles dips yoghurty coated

These are simply regular fruity Skittles with a yoghurt flavour coating and are available in Asda stores for £1.

The yoghurt coating is pretty thick, moreso than I was expecting and has a familiar sweet yoghurt aroma.

skittles dips yoghurty coated

I was expecting these to be awful if I'm honest, but to my surprise they weren't too bad! They're not quite as tangy as expected, which is a good thing, they're more of a sweet yoghurt "flavoured" coating that somehow works and mixes with the fruit flavours to make them a mix of creamy and fruity...somewhat like a fruit yoghurt. Albeit more artificial and sickly, of course!

skittles dips yoghurty coated

Although these surprised me, being honest I can't see them being popular with everyone. They're a bit marmite in that the flavour is probably too "out there" and unusual. Still, I liked them and it's nice to see something a bit different from Skittles rather than just another flavour variation. That being said, there's a new Skittles Smoothies variety due in Asda this week...stay tuned for a review of that!

Galaxy White Chocolate Cookies Review

Galaxy white Chocolate cookies

For some inexplicable reason, Mars UK do Galaxy white hot chocolate, Maltesers white hot chocolate, and now they also do Galaxy white chocolate cookies! Unfortunately they don’t do *actual* bars of Galaxy white chocolate. Either they're trying to gauge demand for one (which already exists in Dubai!) or using the name to sell other products. I hope it's the former because that white chocolate Galaxy looks amazing. Fingers crossed!

On to today's review then - these cookies are currently new and exclusive to Asda for £1 a pack. They come with about 8 cookies per pack that smell super buttery and golden - I knew these were gonna be good!

And they were delicious! They were somehow more creamy and milky than a run of the milk white chocolate cookie, although didn't have butter in the ingredients but they did have whey powder, so I'm presuming whey was added to the cookie mix as well as the white chocolate chunks. These are definitely different to a standard white chocolate chip cookie and very creamy. That being said, they don't beat Fox's White Chunkies Cookies, which are perhaps the best ones...ever!

If this sounds like your kind of thing, head on over to Asda, and if like me you want to see real Galaxy white chocolate bars on shelves - please do email Galaxy and let them know! Alternatively, you could book a flight to Dubai instead...

Skittles Smoothies Review

Skittles smoothies Limited Edition

This seems to be the year for new Skittles flavours, and as well as the Skittles Dips Yoghurty Coated launched in Asda recently there’s also this new Skittles Smoothies Limited Edition. They're described as fruit and yoghurt flavoured Skittles and come in banana, pineapple, apricot, raspberry and blueberry flavours. They’re £1 a pack currently in Asda stores only.

Skittles smoothies Limited Edition

To be honest there’s not a great deal to say about them. They’re alright - they’re slightly creamier and less tangy than standard Skittles but aren’t quite milky or creamy enough to be called smoothie in my opinion. It’s nice to have some different flavours like banana, pineapple etc though.

Overall, not a bad attempt and it’s nice to have some variation in Skittles varieties, but the Yoghurty Coated Dips are far more interesting than these.

Coconuts Organic Non Dairy Double Caramel Ice Cream Review

Coconuts organic double caramel

I was very happy this week to see a new dairy free ice cream brand launched in Tesco. They were formerly called Coconuts Naturally, and I reviewed their Rum and Raisin ice cream some time ago, but now they're called Coconuts Organic and have two flavours listed in selected Tesco stores - Double Caramel and Chocolate Orange. The tubs are vegan, refined sugar free (they contain coconut sugar instead), nut free and gluten free. They cost £5 a tub which may seem a lot, but trust me these bad boys are worth it! (especially when compared to Halo Top Dairy Free which is the same price).

Coconuts organic non dairy double caramel ice cream

I bought a tub of both the Chocolate Orange and Caramel, and will review the Orange at a later date. This Double Caramel flavour is described as "Organic non-dairy caramel ice cream, made with coconut cream, unrefined coconut sugar and a caranel swirl" and contains 40% coconut cream, coconut sugar, plus a few natural stabilisers like pectin etc. And it tastes delicious! When I got the tub home the consistency was lovely and melty, and just perfect to eat.

Coconuts organic non dairy double caramel ice cream

I wasn’t quite prepared for just how nice this was! It’s super caramelly, with both the ice cream and sauce being like a one-two punch, and kept making me think of blonde chocolate in ice cream form. Unlike some dairy free ice creams it wasn’t sorbet like at all and in fact had the perfect consistency - creamy but not watery. It tastes pretty much like a real dairy ice cream. The caramel sauce is just enough for little indulgent little mouthfuls. Compared to Halo Top Dairy Free Ice Creams this knocks the pants off them - no contest!

Overall, if you’re vegan or avoiding dairy for any reason then these are an absolute must-try and will probably become a staple! (they already have with one of my vegan friends I suspect). Definitely the best of all the dairy free ice creams I’ve tried thus far (which granted, isn’t a lot as not many exist, but I’ve still reviewed a fair few by now!)

Stay tuned for my review of the Chocolate Orange flavour, and let me know in the comments if you’ve tried this, or fancy giving it a try?

Cadbury Dairy Milk Choca Latte

cadbury dairy milk choca latte

Recently Cadbury UK launched three new Dairy Milk bars, and you can vote for which one gets to stay on shelves. Neat idea right? Amongst the flavours are Simply The Zest, Raspberry Shortcake and today's review: Choca Latte. This is a coffee themed bar, with a coffee flavour cream filling and filled with biscuit pieces.

Cadbury Dairy Milk Choca Latte

I was very excited to try this one as I do love me some coffee chocolates and miss the coffee cream chocolate from Quality Street selections (it used to be in there many years ago). Opening the wrapper of this bar I was very excited indeed as it had a nice creamy coffee cream like aroma.

It tastes pretty good, the cream isn't very strongly coffee flavoured but it has a nice sweet creaminess and is definitely worthy of the name latte. It reminds me a bit of the Coffee Escape chocolate from Cadbury Roses. The biscuit pieces blend nicely with it and make for a good crunchy and creamy combo. It's not the most groundbreaking flavour, probably not the one I would vote to keep but it's still pretty decent.

Have you tried these new Cadbury bars yet? Let me know in the comments!

Cadbury Dairy Milk The Raspberry Shortcake Review

cadbury dairy milk raspberry shortcake

As I mentioned in my review of the new Cadbury Dairy Milk Choca-Latte bar, Cadbury UK have gone and released three new flavours of which you can vote for to keep your favourite one. Peoples responses on Instagram have been mixed so it'll certainly be interesting to see which wins, but I've seen a lot of love for both the Latte and Raspberry flavours so far. So which did I prefer?

Well, as nice as the Choca Latte was and it's great having a coffee flavour Dairy Milk bar, it lacks that certain something to make it worthy of staying in my opinion. I thought this Raspberry Shortcake variety was better, even if it's a more simple combination - sometimes simple things are better!

This reminded me a little of the Dairy Milk with Shortcake pieces, that was delicious, available in the early 2000's, and annoyingly discontinued! -

The shortcake bits are similar and very plentiful in this bar, with the dried raspberry bits giving an interesting contrast. It also contains "white crispy pearls" which are a bit like rice crispies.

Now I'm not usually a big fan of dried raspberry however they really work here paired with the sweet Dairy Milk, crispy pearls and shortcake bits. It's a nice simple combination of flavours and textures that just works well together. I do think maybe strawberry might have been a nice idea instead, since strawberry shortcake is a classic combination, but this is still pretty delicious.

All in all, this is probably my favourite of the new flavours. Let me know yours in the comments below if you've tried them!

Cadbury dairy milk simply the zest

Amongst the other new flavours in the Cadbury Dairy Milk flavour vote (Choca-Latte and Raspberry Shortcake) the last one is this: Simply The Zest. I was very excited to try this as there's no orange flavour Cadbury bar currently on the market and also because Cadbury used to do a delicious orange flavour Dairy Milk many years ago:

This Simply The Zest bar was described as orange flavoured in the press releases so I thought it might be similar to the Dairy Milk Orange, but alas it wasn't. Instead it contains orange pieces and shortcake pieces plus crunchy almond caramel.

It's pretty tasty, of course! The orange pieces are like chewy candied orange, similar to what you get in the Cadbury Bournville Orange, and the caramel pieces are a bit like Daim. To be honest they get a bit lost with the other flavours and textures, the shortcake biscuits are nice and crunchy, and overall it's a mishmash of fruit and biscuit flavours. Like I said, pretty tasty, but ultimately it didn't seem like the best out of the three new flavours. I think had the chocolate been orange flavoured it would actually be nicer and more unique.

Do let me know in the comments if you've tried this flavour or the others from the new range!
